Depression Care

Suggestions for Symptom Reduction, Mental Wellness & Resiliency

Welcome!

I’m so happy to have you here! This 'Depression Care' series is born from years of walking alongside individuals navigating the profound weight of low mood, sadness, and depression. The voice of depression can often feel stormy, cold, and all-consuming, making it hard to see beyond the clouds. To gently balance and even counter that experience, we need consistent and accessible sources of positive, hope-filled content. I hope that this series provides exactly that for you. You are not alone, and there is a path towards finding more ease and light in your day.

This information is shared as a supportive resource to aid you in your day-to-day life, offering strategies for symptom reduction. However, it is not intended as an alternative to professional therapy, which can help to uncover the roots of why depression may be present in the first place.

Understanding Depression as Symptoms

In this video, I aim to validate and normalize the experience of depression by reframing its difficult manifestations—like negative self-talk, guilt, and fatigue—as symptoms rather than personal flaws or inherent parts of one's identity. I'll talk about the powerful role of language, highlighting how phrases like "my depression" can inadvertently diminish a sense of agency. My intent is to offer practical, compassionate strategies to help individuals manage depression symptoms and understand that they are capable of navigating their experience without being defined by it.

Why Self-Compassion Can Be So Hard

In this video, I'll explore with you why self-compassion can feel uncomfortable, awkward, or even unsafe — discussing this challenge as learned survival responses rather than personal shortcomings. I’ll share 6 common reasons this challenge arises, and offer some simple strategies to help you begin shifting your relationship with yourself, so that kindness feels less foreign and more accessible over time. By understanding the “why” behind your challenge with self-compassion, I hope you can start to approach it more as a skill you can learn. Thank you for being here!
