Launched during the initial shutdown of COVID-19, this was my way of creating a support to children and families that suddenly found themselves at home with their complete way of life interrupted. Schools were closed, visits with friends and family became rare, and outings were discouraged. The shutdown also meant that children and families were without support services that may have been in place pre-pandemic. I pulled this online resource together to put some supports in place, for children who may have been having a tough time coping.
This video series takes components of the Live Calm Kids group (that traditionally ran in-person), turning it into a video series on managing emotions that kids can access at home. Live Calm Kids Program Details:

Lesson 1
The Sensation of Emotion Welcome to the first video in the Live Calm Kids video series! This first video will help children learn to connecting with emotions in the body. We're all suddenly at home with our children because of the Corona Virus - so this is my way of helping out, giving kids some helpful tools to regulate emotion, and letting parents have a few minutes break! Supplies needed: paper, and markers/crayons/pencil crayons - which ever one your kids prefer :) |

Lesson 2
Externalizing Worry Welcome to the second video in the Live Calm Kids online series about emotions! In this video, we will be externalizing worry and anxiety. Through viewing this trickster emotion as outside of themselves, children will learn that the anxiety is not who they are. Building awareness, naming emotions, noticing the felt sense, and moving it out so as to deal with it with all their strengths is a cornerstone emotion regulation skill. Supplies needed: paper, paints and water, 1 paint brush, 1 straw |

Lesson 3
Breathing & Imagination for Calm Welcome to episode 3! In this video we will be slowing down, and using our breath to connect with and move through emotion. We will also be talking about imagination, and how we can use our imagination to move through big emotions and connect with a peaceful feeling in our bodies. There are no supplies needed for this video - just a comfortable place to sit. I do invite views to use their art supplies after watching the video, to draw, paint, or scribble the images they connected with during the video. |

Lesson 6
Simple Skills for Big Emotions Ok, so for the record: Yes, I did say this video would be 6 minutes long - and yes, I did miss that mark and this session is actually 9 minutes. I am sorry for that! This sixth and final episode ties together all the skills learned throughout the series, focusing on change, growth, and resiliency. Thank you so much for watching!
